Welcome

This year’s spring Wickham Charity Beer Festival was a great success, tickets sold out early unfortunately  we had to turn some people away. We had 40 different local beers and ciders that were sponsored by local businesses. During the course of the all day event over 3000 pints where consumed by thirsty customers that were all drinking for charity! We raised between £6k-£7k for local good causes including;

Sophie's Appeal -  Sophie's Appeal was started in 2003 by Lin and Mike Barringer with some close friends following the diagnosis of their daughter Sophie with Wilm's Disease. This cancer of the kidney claimed the life of Sophie in December 2004 at the age of six.

Jeans for Genes - Jack Layton a five-year-old who attends Wickham Church of England Primary School suffers from the second most aggressive form of muscular dystrophy. Jack is still able to walk and run but he tires quickly because his muscles are weak. And his condition is set to get worse over time. The charity helps fund research into genetic disorders as well as care for afflicted families.

Trust 2000 - seek to support small community projects at home and abroad where £1500 to £3000 can make a difference. This is how much we give away each year to one or two charitable organizations from a fund that was raised by three small villages in southern England - Shedfield, Shirrell Heath and Waltham Chase in Hampshire - to mark the Millennium

Wickham Community Association - first formed as a charity on 6th October 1984. The purpose, at that time, was to improve the conditions of the people of Wickham by building a new Community Centre on land donated by farmer Ralph Houghton. With the sale of the old village hall – The victory Hall in Bridge Street - and a lot of fund raising, the new Centre was built and opened to the public on 29th December 1988.

Food was produced by Wickham Centre during the day and the evening session was catered by The Meon Valley Lions who put on a fantastic BBQ using meat and vegetables donated by a local butcher and farm shop.

Music at the evening session was provided by The Pete Harris Blues Band, recognized as one of the leading blues bands on the South Coast and Jack Rabbit, The south coasts premier party band, mixing an energetic mix of classic rock n roll, show tunes from the likes of the Blues Brothers and indie from the Kings of Leon to the Arctic Monkeys with the highest level of musicianship. Both bands had everyone up on their feet dancing the night away.

A big thank you must go to all our sponsors and volunteers  without which we would not be able to put on such a great event especially Bowman Ales who have continued to support us for the last 4 years.

The 9th Wickham Charity Beer Festival will be on Saturday 13th October 2012

Cheers
